Our Brother's Keeper Celebrates Successful Inaugural Blue Jean Ball
Updated: 21 hours ago
Our Brother's Keeper (OBK) welcomed nearly 200 community members to its first Blue Jean Ball, raising $11,457 in gross revenue to support the organization's work serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness across Mecosta, Osceola, Lake, and Newaygo counties.
The evening brought together community members, volunteers, donors, local leaders, and elected officials who have supported OBK's work over the years. Guests enjoyed a steak dinner, live music, and an opportunity to learn more about Our Brother's Keeper, including how the organization started and the work it continues to do today.
Throughout the evening, we took time to recognize the people who helped build OBK into what it is today. Executive Director Jeffrey Auguste and Board President Ron McKean shared remarks, and guests heard a personal testimony highlighting the importance of having a safe place to stay and the support needed to move forward. Special recognition was given to Troy Landis, OBK's first Executive Director, and Dolores Conley-Horan for their contributions and continued advocacy over the years.
We also recognized past and present board members, founding supporters, volunteers, and community partners who have given their time and resources to help OBK serve those in need.
For us, the Blue Jean Ball was about more than raising money. It was also an opportunity to bring people together, share the organization's history, and thank those who have helped keep our doors open. Our first Blue Jean Ball would not have been possible without the work of our Fundraising Committee with Linda Spedoski's leadership and the generosity of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, local businesses, and everyone who attended. Planning an event like this for the first time takes a lot of work, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make it happen.
The support we received is a reminder of how much our community cares about ensuring that people experiencing homelessness have somewhere safe to turn.
Every contribution helps OBK continue providing emergency shelter, housing-focused case management, and connections to other resources that help individuals and families work toward stability.
We are excited to build on this first Blue Jean Ball and make it an annual tradition.
As we look ahead, we hope to continue bringing our community together, recognizing the people who support our mission, and sharing the difference that support makes.
To everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, donated, or helped behind the scenes, thank you for making our first Blue Jean Ball possible.
