Interested In Volunteering?

Our shelter runs because of wonderful volunteers such as yourself! We are always looking for help and there are a variety of ways you can donate your time and energy.  
I Want to Help!

Volunteer Opportunities:


Monitors:
Shifts available in the morning, afternoon, evening and overnight.
Responsibilities include:
  • Answering the phone
  • Greeting visitors
  • Assist Guests
  • Assist Director

Entertainment
Help relieve the boredom of shelter living.  Help foster a spirit of warmth and companionship during this difficult time for guests.
  • Provide musical entertainment
  • Play board games and cards
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Exercise, dance, yoga
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Play games with the children

Navigators
Help guests navigate the bureaucracy of homelessness:
  • Assist in filling out paperwork
  • Advocate at agency meetings
  • Brainstorm solutions
  • Encourage accountability
  • Provide empathy and concern

Educators
People to come in during the day or evening and share life skills with guests:
  • Cooking skills
  • Shopping skills
  • Budgeting
  • Mending
  • Home repair and maintenance
  • First Aid
  • Parenting
  • Computers

Financial Support
OBK is totally funded by donations.
